News:
Preston Bus is supposed to be getting a batch of brand new StreetLites and StreetDecks with the next few years.
Service 15 Broughton via Longsands Lane, Asda, Longfield/Broadwood Drive, Wychnor and Woodplumpton is being withdrawn on Saturday 18th July 2020, but will be replaced by services 43, 46 and 49, see details below.
New service 43 RPH via Train Station, Maudland, Cottam and Wychnor, this route starts running on Sunday 19th July 2020, it partly replaces the service 15.
Service 44 Cottam & Ingol, the route around Cottam will be reversed and also a Sunday timetable will be introduced on the route as far as the Ingol terminus on Dunbar Road from Sunday 19th July 2020.
Service 45 Blackburn via Royal Preston Hospital, Broughton, Goosnargh, Whittingham, Longridge, Salesbury and Wilpshire a Sunday timetable will be introduced from Sunday 19th July 2020.
New service 46 Longridge via Mill Lane, Ingol, Woodplumpton, Broughton, Goosnargh and Whittingham, this route starts running on Monday 20th July 2020, it partly replaces the service 15.
New service 49 RPH via Longsands Lane, Asda and Longfield/Broadwood Drive, this route starts running on Monday 20th July 2020, it partly replaces the service 15.
Service 75 Fleetwood via Train Station, Navigation Way/Chain Caul Way, Newton-with-Scales, Weeton, Singleton and Thorton is being withdrawn on Saturday 18th July 2020, but will be replaced by a service provided by Blackpool Transport.
Service 112 Moss Side via Frenchwood, Walton-le-Dale, Bamber Bridge, Walton Summit, Clayton Brook, Clayton Green, Clayton-le-Woods, Runshaw College and Midge Hall is being withdrawn on Saturday 18th July, but will be replaced by a service provided by Holmeswood Coaches.
Service 114 Chorley (Eaves Lane) via Train Station, Broadgate, Penwortham, Whitestake, Leyland, Clayton-le-Woods, Clayton Green, Clayton Brook, Whittle-le-Woods and Chorley Hospital is being withdrawn on Saturday 18th July, but will be replaced by a service provided by Holmeswood Coaches.
The following is a bit of detail about route history:
6 Brookfield the route dates back to July 1958 when it was originally BF, it changed to 36 before being renumbered 6, it was extended to Red Scar in the April 2016, it stopped running in the June 2010, but started running again in April 2016. There was also a service 7 that ran to Fulwood Row serving Garstang Road and Watling Street Road, this service ran between June 1983 and stopped running in either the 00s or 10s, the route along Garstang Road is now covered by the 45 Blackburn.
8 Moor Nook the route dates back to July 1939 when it was originally M and originally had the destination Moorside, it was changed to MN, 7 and finally to 8. There was also a service 9 that ran to Moor Nook that served Miller Road, this service ran between October 1989 and stopped being run by Preston Bus in June 2007 when it was taken over by a different bus company, this route is still running today with that same company.
12 Longton the route date back to February 2016, the has changed very little since then, but a significant change was during the start of the covid pandemic it was rerouted from terminating at Lune Street to the Train Station.
14 Holme Slack the route dates back to February 1936 when it was originally HS, the route has been changed a few times and at one point the was a route that ran along the route and extended to Fairfax Road numbered 114, at some point the route was extended to Brookfield in September 2012 then changed to Longsands at some point between 2014-2016 before it was cut back to the Holme Slack turning circle at Lily Grove in September 2018.
16 Farringdon Park the route dates back to June 1904 when it was originally a tram route, the route hasn't changed much since, it was originally FP before being renumbered to 16.
19 Royal Preston Hospital (RPH) the route dates back to April 1987, the route has changed very little since, at some point there was a service 19A which started in March 2009 served the Broadwood Drive estate which ran alongside the 19 service when it was deemed that the 19 serving the Broadwood Drive estate had low usage, this continued for a period of around a year before being replaced in March 2010, it's replacement was the 4B which ran for a period of around 3 months only from March 2013 until June 2013, service 19A now operates Monday-Friday between Preston Business Centre and RPH between 7:30am-just after 9am, but the Broadwood Drive estate is now served in part by the 49 RPH service.
23 Asda the route dates back to July 1987, the route has changed very little since, there was a service 123 which operated on Sundays before the Sunday trading laws came into effect and Asda opened on a Sundays, also alongside the 23 a service 22 also operated to the Fulwood turning circle opposite St Clare's church, this dates back to January 1922 when it was originally a tram route, the route originally terminated at Lytham Road, it was extended several times, firstly to Boys Lane, then Queen's Drive, it was originally PL, before it got changed to 22.
31 Lea and Savick the route dates back to October 1989, although there had been buses running to Savick since October 1974, it was originally P7, then changed to 30 and a further route of 29 was added in 1991, Lea services can trace there route back to 1904 when it was originally a tram route to Ashton (Pedders Lane), it was originally A, then changed 24, a further route of P1, it was changed to P3 then 26 was added in the route was extended to Lea in 1948, this service stopped running in November 1980 except for two morning buses Monday-Friday, the 26 service then got rerouted to serve Garstang Road and this service continued until June 1984, at this time a new service 25 bus started running without serving the Hawthorn Crescent estate.
35 Tanterton the route date back to November 1980 when it was originally 33 serving Brook Street as the Ingol service served Fylde Road, the 35 started running in October 1989, there was also a service 32 which ran to Tanterton serving Garstang Road and Lightfoot Lane which started in 1983, but can trace it's route back to 1948 when it was originally the P2 Lightfoot Lane service, it was renumbered 28 and renumbered 32 after it started running to Tanterton, the 32 bus service stopped running when the route was renumbered and reroute as 36 Cottam via Lightfoot Lane.
43 RPH the route dates back to July 2020, when the route started running to RPH, part of the route was previously served by the 27 Larches bus route (between the Bus Station and Tulketh Brow) and the 32 Tanterton via Lightfoot Lane, then 36 Cottam via Lightfoot Lane ( between The Guild Merchant roundabout and The Black Bull Pub) and finally the 15 Broughton, in July 2020 the 15 Broughton service was broken up into three routes with part of the new route serving Bow Lane and Maudland which had previously been served by another bus company.
44 Cottam and Ingol the route dates back to February 1965 when it was originally P4 then changed to 34 serving Fylde Road, in addition a service P6 then changed to 43, in April 1988 the 43 service was rerouted to serve Mill Lane, in November 1980 an additional service 44 serving Brook Street was added, at some point the 36 Cottam serving Lightfoot Lane was added, the 36 stopped running when it was replaced by the 88 A/C service, when this service stopped running it was replaced by 88 RPH-Cottam service, this was extended to Larches at some point soon after, at some point the 34,43 and 44 became only the 44 and was extended in the late 2010s to Cottam.
45 Blackburn the route dates back to December 2019 although the route is an extension of the 35 Longridge-Blackburn service which actually dates back to October 2017 when it was served mainly by Ribble Valley Preston Buses, the route follows part of the route of the former 7 Brookfield route from the Bus Station to the Watling Street Road/Sharoe Green Lane junction.
46 Longridge the route dates back to July 2020, when the route started running to Longridge, part of the route was previously served by the 43 Ingol via Mill Lane bus route (between Gas Style and Ingol Methodist Church), in July 2020 the 15 Broughton service was broken up into three routes with part of the new route serving Mill Lane which had previously been served by another bus company.
49 RPH the route dates back to July 2020, when the route started running to RPH, the Longsands service dates back to April 1937 when it was originally LS, it was changed to 36, 6 and 5 before it was replaced by the 88 A/C Orbit route, when the Orbit service stopped running there was no service that ran to Longsands for a period of time, in February 2019 the route was reintroduced as the number 15 bus route to Longsands Lane, in November 2019 it was extended to Broughton via Asda, Longfield and Broadwood Drive estate, RPH, Wychnor and Woodplumpton, in July 2020, the route was broken up into three routes, with two of the routes running RPH and the other running to Longridge, they are numbered 43, 46 and 49.
88 RPH-Larches the route dates back to April 2016 although the route was part of the 88 A/C Orbit route which originally started in October 2006, the original route after the 88 A/C Orbit bus was withdrawn was from RPH-Cottam at the junction of Cottam Way and Lea Road turning round at the roundabout, it was soon extended to Larches which was paid for by the local community (if I remember correctly).
89 Larches the route dates back to April 1955 when it was originally P1, it was renumbered to 27, in October 2006 the 27 stopped running and was replaced by the 88 A/C Orbit service until it stopped running in April 2016, it was then that the service 89 started running in the form that we know it as today.
